چکیده

We propose that a nearby gamma-ray burst (GRB) or GRB-like (old, single and short-lived) pulsar/microquasar about 105−6 years ago may be responsible for the excesses of cosmic-ray positrons and electrons recently observed by the PAMELA, ATIC/PPB-BETS, Fermi and HESS experiments. We can reproduce the smooth Fermi/HESS spectra as well as the spiky ATIC/PPB-BETS spectra. The spectra have a sharp cutoff that is similar to the dark matter predictions, sometimes together with a line (not similar), since higher energy cosmic-rays cool faster where the cutoff/line energy marks the source age. A GRB-like astrophysical source is expected to have a small but finite spread in the cutoff/line as well as anisotropy in the cosmic-ray and diffuse gamma-ray flux, providing a method for the Fermi and future CALET experiments to discriminate between dark matter and astrophysical origins. Subject headings: cosmic rays — diffusion — gamma rays: bursts — gamma rays: theory — pulsars: general — radiation mechanism: non-thermal

Detecting Gamma-Ray Anisotropies from Decaying Dark Matter: Prospects for Fermi LAT

Decaying dark matter particles could be indirectly detected as an excess over a simple power law in the energy spectrum of the diffuse extragalactic gamma-ray background. Furthermore, since the Earth is not located at the center of the Galactic dark matter halo, the exotic contribution from dark matter decay to the diffuse gamma-ray flux is expected to be anisotropic, offering a complementary m...

The anomaly in the cosmic-ray positron spectrum

A recent analysis of cosmic-ray data from a space borne experiment by the AMS collaboration supports the observation of an excess in the cosmic-ray positron spectrum by previous balloon experiments. The combination of the various experimental data establishes a deviation from the expected background with a significance of more than four standard deviations. The observed change in the spectral i...

Indirect detection of neutralino dark matter candidates in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenarios

We consider a model for neutralino dark matter candidates arising in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking schemes, and examine its testability through the search for exotic cosmic rays produced by neutralino pair annihilations in the dark halo of the Galaxy. We find that the model is already constrained by available antiprotons and positrons measurements and may be further tested in upcoming...

On Possible Interpretations of the High Energy Electron-positron Spectrum Measured by the Fermi Large Area Telescope

The Fermi-LAT experiment recently reported high precision measurements of the spectrum of cosmic-ray electrons-plus-positrons (CRE) between 20 GeV and 1 TeV. The spectrum shows no prominent spectral features, and is significantly harder than that inferred from several previous experiments. We show that the interpretation of the reported data, especially when combined with other experimental res...

Extragalactic Inverse Compton Light from Dark Matter Annihilation and the Pamela Positron Excess

We calculate the extragalactic diffuse emission originating from the upscattering of cosmic microwave photons by energetic electrons and positrons produced in particle dark matter annihilation events at all redshifts and in all halos. We outline the observational constraints on this emission and we study its dependence on both the particle dark matter model (including the particle mass and its ...
